Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has expressed his heartbreak after suffering a fresh injury setback, ruling him out of Wednesday night’s crucial Premier League clash against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Shaw recently returned to action in United’s 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town and featured in victories over Bodo/Glimt and Everton at Old Trafford. However, his latest setback comes as a major blow to both the player and manager Ruben Amorim, who faces mounting challenges ahead of the trip to London.

On Tuesday evening, Shaw shared an emotional statement on social media: “Hi guys, it’s hurting a lot having to write this as I really thought I had got through my recent struggles and was on a positive path going forward, but unfortunately, I’ve had a small setback. I’ve been through a lot and had many ups and downs, but this has definitely been my toughest period. I’m absolutely devastated, and it’s extremely tough to come to terms with reality at this moment in time.

“I understand there are going to be people frustrated, angry, and disappointed—I understand all that. There is no one feeling that more than me at this moment. But what I can promise is I will do everything I can to come back better soon to help this club achieve its ambitions this season.

Shaw’s absence adds to a growing list of issues for Amorim, who will also be without Lisandro Martinez and Kobbie Mainoo for the Arsenal match. The duo picked up suspensions after receiving yellow cards in United’s 2-1 win over Everton. Mainoo was booked for a foul on Dwight McNeil near the edge of the penalty area, while Martinez was cautioned shortly afterward for halting a counterattack by pulling back striker Beto.

Adding to the manager’s woes, captain Bruno Fernandes is a fitness concern after being substituted in the 65th minute against Everton. The Portuguese playmaker, who delivered two assists in the match, was seen icing his ankle on the sidelines.
