Andy Townsend was stunned by a Mohammed Kudus effort for West Ham United in their defeat against Leicester City on Tuesday night.

Julen Lopetegui suffered the latest blow to his job prospects with the Hammers, losing 3-1 away at the King Power on 3 December.

The away side arguably deserved more and weren’t without their chances, with Mads Hermansen doing well to deny Kudus, which left Townsend amazed live on Amazon Prime Sport (3 December).

He said: “Wow. That was unlucky by Kudus. It was a wicked deflection and the keeper panics. It’s a good save in the end.”

The 24-year-old was certainly a welcome return to the starting XI for the Irons and had a positive game despite being on the wrong side of the result.

Regardless of what some fans will say in East London, there can be little blame associated with the manager after this game.

On another day the Irons secure a huge win and the Spaniard takes all the acclaim for some smart changes made to his line-up.

With 29 shots on the day, just one from Kudus, the away side should have realistically got on the scoresheet away in the East Midlands.

This wasn’t the case and the likes of Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta and Crysencio Summerville couldn’t breach Mads Hermansen in goal for the Foxes.

Despite this, the performance from the whole side was much better with the ex-Ajax man in the squad, even if Lopetegui’s men came away on the wrong side of a 3-1 loss.
