Lamine Yamal talks fitness, Trivela assist, and chemistry with Raphinha after 5-1 Barcelona win against Mallorca

After a 2nd-half appearance against Las Palmas following his recovery, Lamine Yamal returned to the starting line-up for Barcelona against RCD Mallorca, and the Catalans also got a good result in this game after having failed to get a win without the young winger in their last three league matches in the starting XI.

Although he did not get on the scoresheet, Yamal’s influence on this game was quite clear as he won the penalty that was converted by Raphinha to make the score 2-1, and also provided the assist for his team’s third goal on the night.

As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the youngster also talked to the media after the game and expressed his happiness on finally getting the full three points in La Liga:

“It was a very important victory after the two losses in La Liga. It was crucial to win with a result like this, and we are very happy.”

Like Flick, the winger also believed that his team could have been farther ahead of their rivals in the first half: “We had been better in the first half, but we needed to finish the clear chances we had. We came out with that mindset, and it worked out quite well for us.”

Yamal provided an exquisite trivela pass to Raphinha to make the scoreline 3-1, and he talked about this pass in the media talk:

“It’s something I do quite well, I usually make that play. I’m very happy for Rapha, we understand each other very well, and he knows that when I’m in that area of the field, I’ll always try to make that pass.”

The 17-year-old La Masia graduate also highlighted the importance of this win for the team:

“It’s a very important victory for the team; we needed to get back to winning. We’ve been great in the Champions League, but in La Liga, we’ve been dropping unnecessary points. This win is crucial for everyone, and the goals, especially for those who play less, give them a lot of confidence.”

Lastly, the Barcelona star also provided an update on his ankle: “The ankle is doing very well, and I’m ready to play all the matches necessary.”

Last night’s match was a clear demonstration of how Yamal’s presence boosts the team’s attacking output. Hopefully, he will remain fit and continue helping the team get such big wins after having missed almost the entire last month due to injury.
