Dan Burn is set to start for Newcastle United against Liverpool tonight, despite ongoing troubles with his ankle.
The Blyth-born defender missed the 2-0 defeat at home to West Ham United through suspension but was immediately recalled to the starting XI in place of Lloyd Kelly at Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Burn partnered Fabian Schar at centre-back and was just minutes away from seeing out a 1-0 win. That was until Daniel Munoz equalised in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

After the draw at Selhurst Park, it was revealed Burn has been nursing an ankle problem. Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s visit to St James’ Park, United head coach Eddie Howe provided another update.
“Dan got through the game really well,” Howe said. “When he got suspended, we used that as a chance to try to rest his ankle and get him 100 per cent fit.
“He had a mixed time in that period where he didn’t play – he didn’t feel right, he went to see a specialist and he had really minimal training time, so I thought he was outstanding, all things considered, against Crystal Palace.
“After the game, he felt okay.”

Howe is likely to name the same back four that started against Palace. Kieran Trippier is back available but Howe says the right-back needs time to build up his fitness.
“Tripps, in line with the other players on that right-hand side, has created so much for us historically,” Howe added. “I think if you go back to our Champions League season, that was probably our most dominant side of the pitch. A lot of goals came down that side, a lot of chances were created down that side, and Kieran was pivotal to that.
“We’ve certainly missed his attacking attributes and his range, and what he brings. He’s improving physically. He hasn’t played consistently now for quite a long time, so getting him back in that rhythm where he can feel 100 per cent fit will take a little bit of time.
“But he’s certainly closer than he was, and touch wood, he’s solved the hamstring problem that he had.”
