Arne Slot makes ‘joke’ about Man City’s alleged 115 charges that he thinks will ‘get the…

Pep Guardiola had his first meeting with Arne Slot in recent days.

After eight years of battling with Jurgen Klopp when Manchester City took on Liverpool, Sunday saw the Blues face off against the Merseyside club for the first time since Arne Slot replaced the German.

The match ended with a 2-0 victory for the Reds at Anfield, giving Pep Guardiola’s side their fourth consecutive league defeat and opening up an 11-point gap with the Manchester club.

Ahead of this week’s round of midweek fixtures, the new Liverpool manager has mentioned City when asked about a particular subject concerning one of his players.

Arne Slot makes ‘joke’ about Man City’s alleged charges

After helping his side beat the Blues on Sunday, Mohamed Salah said in a post-match interview with Sky Sports that he could have played his final match against City at Anfield in reference to the fact that his contract at Liverpool is set to expire in the summer.

When asked about Salah’s comments in his recent press conference, Slot brought up a different topic entirely involving the Manchester club.

He said: “Maybe Mo knows more about the 115 accusations for [Man City] not to be in the Premier League next season and I do expect them in the Premier League next season.

“The boring answer is always the same. This is not the place for me to talk about Salah’s contract and maybe already, I’ve said too much about the joke I just made.

“That will probably get the headlines. It was a joke. I repeat, it was a joke.”

Slot’s joke will hopefully come back to bite him

While the Dutchman made it clear he was just making a joke at the Manchester club’s expense, it’s safe to say that no one connected to City would have found it a funny one.

Even though a final verdict on the alleged charges – which City have denied from the outset – is likely to be some time away, the Liverpool manager could well end up making himself look silly by even suggesting the prospect of the Manchester club getting relegated.

In more pressing matters, Guardiola, his coaching staff and the players in City’s squad should not be concerned with what anyone outside the Etihad Stadium is saying about the club.

Instead, their focus should be only what they do at the training ground and picking up positive results in their upcoming period of domestic and European fixtures.
