It has been a frustrating start to life for Crysencio Summerville at West Ham United since he joined the Hammers from Leeds United in the summer, as West Ham were beaten again on Tuesday night.
Summerville, 23, was one of eight permanent sales made by Leeds in the summer. The third-biggest sale at Elland Road, leaving Leeds for an initial fee of £25m while West Ham could pay £9m more in add-ons.
The Championship Player of the Season for 2023-24 had a hand in 31 goals in all competitions last term. At West Ham, Summerville has made 15 appearances this season – starting only seven Hammers games.
The Netherlands U21 star has endured a disappointing start, though. Not just on a personal level in terms of his form and game time, but West Ham have flopped – winning just four of 14 Premier League games.

Crysencio Summerville notches first West Ham assist on Tuesday
The former Feyenoord star has scored one goal, Summerville delighting Leeds fans with a goal in a 2-0 win over Manchester United. But that remains his only goal, though he did lay on an assist on Tuesday.
His first assist for West Ham came as a consolation, as newly-promoted Leicester secured a 3-1 win at The King Power in Ruud van Nistelrooy’s first game as manager. Jamie Vardy opened the scoring for Leicester.
Bilal El Khannouss got his first goal and Leicester’s second before substitute Patson Daka netted a third. Summerville entered the fray at half-time, and his headed flick-on found Niclas Fullkrug to net a late goal.
Summerville assist something he didn’t manage at Leeds last term
The pocket-sized winger laid on 10 assists last season, nine of which came in the Championship including one in the play-offs during the second legal against Norwich. But none of those 10 came with his head.

Summerville will have been more surprised than anyone to have not only won a header from a corner, but to have laid on an assist using his head – at 5ft 7in. But, it sees Summerville notch his second involvement.
There is doubt regarding the future of Hammers manager Julen Lopetegui after a summer of spending, but West Ham left in 14th place despite harbouring pre-season ambitions of a push to qualify for Europe.
Summerville will be hoping that if there is a manager set to arrive at the London Stadium, then he will be given more of a chance from the start moving forward. For now, Lopetegui remains, but for how long?
