‘I have to be patient’… Frenkie de Jong reacts after scoring his first goal for Barcelona this season against Mallorca

FC Barcelona finally got the full three points from a La Liga match, as they won their game against RCD Mallorca last night. The Catalans were still not at their best in this game, but ultimately got the win with a big scoreline of 5-1.

This game was also quite important for the Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong, as he opened both his goals and assists accounts for this season. Overall, the Dutchman had quite a good outing at the Son Moix, which was important for him as he has faced a lot of criticism for some of his recent performances.

As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the Barcelona midfielder also talked to the media after the match. While recognizing that this was only one game, Frenkie was also clear that this win would help the team regain confidence:

“It was very important to win to regain confidence. It was great for us, and although the key is the victory, winning 1-5 in a tough stadium like Mallorca’s gives us confidence to keep going. However, it’s just one game, and there’s still a lot to go.”

The midfielder had a rather strange response when he was asked by the interviewer if he was happy with the chances he is getting following his recovery from a long injury:

“I have to be patient with everything going on. I know that’s the way it is, so I’ll keep doing what I do, working hard, head down, and at some point, we’ll see how it ends.”

The Dutchman had played in a more advanced position last night than is usually the case with him, which helped him showcase his offensive skills without too many defensive responsibilities. He took full advantage of this change, and hopefully, this performance will give him the confidence needed to continue shining in the Blaugrana shirt going forward.
