Nobody is safe as Jacob Steinberg makes jaw-dropping Steidten claim after Leicester shocker

Tim Steidten has underperformed in his role as director of football at West Ham United.

There are no two ways about that in my mind.

West Ham brought Tim Steidten to the London Stadium in the summer of 2023, but he hasn’t lived up to his ‘pearl diver’ moniker as far as I’m concerned.

His poor performance in the summer transfer window culminated with the signing of Niclas Fullkrug, and Steidten is said to be ready to sell the striker in January.

There is apparently friction behind the scenes between Lopetegui and Steidten as well.

All is clearly not well at the London Stadium right now.

Tuesday night’s 3-1 defeat to Leicester City was shambolic in so many ways, and it felt to me like it could be the tipping point for the Hammers owners.

Lopetegui is quite clearly a dead man walking right now.

However, nobody at the club should take their position for granted as things stand…

Steinberg’s Tim Steidten claim proves nobody’s safe at West Ham

The German must be feeling the heat right now.

He seems to have an annoying habit of taking centre stage when we win games, like he did away at Newcastle last week.

However, he disappears when we’re in the middle of a barren run.

The thing is, there’s nowhere to hide for Steidten now. Many of his signings are flattering to deceive, and Jacob Steinberg has suggested that the German should have a big target on his back.

The Guardian journalist is spot on here in all fairness.

We haven’t got what we were promised from Steidten yet, and the 45-year-old has a lot of making up to do.

Whilst I don’t think he has done a good job at all, I do feel like he needs another seven or eight months to prove himself.

Tim Steidten has two windows to save West Ham job

I believe the German should be given the next two transfer windows to prove himself.

However, he has to work around the remit of bringing in young, energetic and obviously talented players.

No more Fullkrugs please.

The fact that he failed to address our lack of pace and power in central midfield in the summer is a sackable offence on its own really.

However, Tim Steidten did excel during his time with Bayer Leverkusen, and he has made one very good signing for West Ham in the form of Mohammed Kudus.

As mentioned earlier though, he needs to work under different parameters. The recruitment has been really poor at West Ham over the past year or so.

And that needs to change quickly.

Steinberg has made it very clear that Steidten’s head should be on the chopping board as well as Lopetegui’s, and I don’t necessarily disagree with him.
