[Julen Lopetegui](https://www.claretandhugh.info/maverick-genius-can-make-or-break-lopetegui/) was a sad looking figure on the touchline last night, twitching forlornly like a run-over rabbit in need of a merciful coup-de-grace. Hopefully sometime this morning we will receive the news that David Sullivan has administered the fatal phone call and done the decent thing for all Hammers fans and for the players.
There is no coherent plan, no strategy, no improvement and continual tinkering with the starting eleven and reports of dressing room bust ups – all of which have beset Lopetegui’s five months of chaos.
The players didn’t seem to be committed to him – yes they were going through the motions last night but there was no urgency, just a gradual resignation. The frantic substitutions meaning at one time we had three strikers- three- but no coherent plan spoke volumes.
I’m sure Julen is a nice man, he seems well meaning. But he is out of his depth here and needs to be consigned to Hammers history without further ado. Why the Chairman didn’t do the decent thing during the international break is I’m sure down to saving face. No football club chairman wants to admit publicly that he got it wrong.
Lets hope that he does the decent thing then steps back and lets Tim Steidten get on and appoint Lopetegui’s successor.
