Sean Dyche will enter this crucial week “under another cloud” after the Everton loss against Manchester United, Ian Herbert says.
Herbert believes the players have let their manager down after the 4-0 defeat to the Red Devils on 1 December at Old Trafford in the Premier League.
Goodison will host Wolves on 4 December and Liverpool for the last time on 7 December in the league ahead of the move to Bramley-Moore Dock next summer.
In the Daily Mail [4 December, pg 67], Herbert wrote: “The last Merseyside derby at Goodison Park will be a beautiful celebration of the grand old stadium. What a shame the players’ atrocious display at Old Trafford last weekend means Dyche enters it under another cloud.
“Dyche has seen the club through very challenging times in a way few others could and refused to throw his players under the bus despite their capitulation against a rank-average Man United.

Indeed, the Toffees players haven’t been at their best for the former Burnley manager, but that’s also a reflection of the 53-year-old’s inability to manage the team.
Dyche did ever so well when he came into the Goodison dugout in January 2023 and helped the Merseysiders avoid relegation.
The English head coach was once again pivotal as the Blues kept their status in the Premier League last season despite being docked points.
Everton fans are grateful to Dyche for what he’s done, but the 53-year-old has failed to make any progress during his time in charge of the Toffees — bringing his future in the dugout rightfully into question.

The Blues are a side big enough not to hover around the relegation zone season after season, and the fans are now starting to make their feelings known.
Farhad Moshiri also deserves to take a massive chunk of the blame for how he’s managed the Merseyside outfit over the years — shoddy recruitment being one of the most prominent black marks.
Dyche should know that he can’t have any complaints, and the Englishman needs to take responsibility for the Toffees’ poor displays.
