Marc Guehi's rainbow armband with the message 'Jesus Loves You' written on
Marc Guehi wrote 'Jesus Loves You' on his captain's armband for Ipswich vs Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner insisted the club will continue to "respect" Marc Guehi after the captain's rainbow armband controversy.
Guehi and his club were issued with a formal reprimand by the FA after he had the words 'I love Jesus' added to the rainbow armband he wore for Palace's weekend draw with Newcastle. Captains have been encouraged to support the Rainbow Laces campaign - supporting LGBT+ inclusion, by wearing rainbow armbands in designated games.
Most have worn the armbands, but Ipswich skipper Sam Morsy refused to do so over the weekend, citing religious reasons. He doubled down by not wearing a rainbow armband for Tuesday's defeat against Palace, despite the FA leaving the door open to punishing the Egypt international.
Guehi wore the rainbow armband for the same game, this time adding the message 'Jesus loves you'. Speaking after the match, which Palace won 1-0, Glasner addressed the situation around his team's captain.

"We respect every single player, especially Marc, who is our captain," Glasner said after the game. "He is a great guy, very humble and we shouldn't make it bigger than it is, he is very respectful to everyone in the club.
"In football we are all against discrimination, it's a great campaign. We spoke about it, we speak often as he is my captain.
"He is no child, he is an adult, he has his opinion and we accept and respect every opinion. The quote of this campaign is to be tolerant and Marc is very tolerant."

Glasner was speaking after Palace gave themselves breathing space in the relegation fight. Jean-Philippe Mateta scored the only goal of the game at Portman Road to lift the Eagles three points clear of 18th-place Wolves, who take on 17th-place Everton on Wednesday.
"Very pleased with the result," Glasner told Match of the Day. "It was not about performing brilliantly. We expected a big fight and it was a big fight.
"It was an amazing goal, an amazing finish with JP Mateta. We had two or three chances to take the game away from them and didn't take them. At the end we had to be a bit lucky but I think we deserved to win.
"When JP gets the ball in the box he is such a good finisher and it is usually a goal. We're pleased with our defensive performance, we didn't allow them a chance from open play, just one from a set piece in the first half and one in the second half."
