Barcelona join Rangers in race for South African starlet as Morelos on the move again – Ibrox…

Rangers face an uphill battle to sign reported target Relebohile Mofokeng - with La Liga powerhouses Barcelona now said to be keen on a move for the South African winger.

Mofokeng enjoyed a breakthrough season at Orlando Pirates last season, where he was named as the Young Player of the Year in South Africa's top tier. The wide man has gone on to win four caps for Bafana Bafana at senior level, and is believed to be on the radar of several clubs in Europe. The Gers were heavily linked with the youngster last summer, and while Mofokeng is reportedly still on Philippe Clement's radar, Catalan giants Barca have now expressed admiration in the 20-year-old.

According to South African outlet SNL24, the five-time Champions League winners have launched enquiries with their contacts in Africa about Mofokeng's services, with fellow Spanish club Levante, Wolves in the Premier League and Rangers keeping tabs on the player. Al Ahly star Percy Tau holds the record for the biggest sale made by a team in the South African Premier Soccer League, when he was bought by Brighton in 2018 for £2.7million.

Elsewhere, former Ibrox favourite Alfredo Morelos could be on the move again. The Colombia international has been back in his homeland with Atletico Nacional on loan from Brazilian side Santos, but his spell with the Medellin side has been overshadowed by an alleged drink-driving incident that left another motorist in a critical condition.

But South American journalist Gustavo Peralta now claims that the ex-Rangers hero is one of three strikers eyed up by Peruvian league champions Universitario ahead of the 2025 season. He reports that Universitario are looking at three forwards who all play their football in Colombia's top tier, with Leonardo Castro of Millonarios and Deportivo Pasto's Daniel Moreno also said to be on the shortlist.

If Morelos were to make the move to Peru, it would be the fifth country the striker has played in during his career. After starting out at Independiente Medellin in his homeland, Morelos' goalscoring exploits at Finnish club HJK won him a switch to Rangers before he joined Santos following his release from Ibrox in the summer of 2023.
