'Unbelievable' Newcastle player looks set to miss Liverpool game after what happened last night

Eddie Howe appears to have no fresh injury concerns ahead of Newcastle United vs Liverpool.

Alexander Isak has been a doubt after the injury he suffered against Crystal Palace, but the 25-year-old has admitted that he should be fine to feature at St James’ Park on Wednesday night.

That is a major boost, as Newcastle United need to put out their best team possible to have any chance of getting a result against the Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Eddie Howe’s squad has been getting stronger in recent weeks, with his bench boosted by the returns of Callum Wilson and Kieran Trippier.

With the Newcastle United squad becoming stronger, some players are even struggling to get on the bench.

That happened to Lewis Miley against West Ham, with the 18-year-old not chosen for tactical reasons.

The midfielder then missed Saturday’s trip to Crystal Palace, having played for the Under-21s the night before.

That has happened again this week, with Lewis Miley playing the full 90 minutes for Newcastle United’s Under-21s on Tuesday night. He was part of the Toon side that lost 3-2 to Boston United in the National League Cup.

The Newcastle XI also included Alex Murphy, who has been a first-team substitute on occasions this season, and Isaac Hayden.

While it was a good run out for Miley, the evening ended in defeat for Newcastle, as Ben Parkinson’s brace counted for nothing.

Miley set to miss Liverpool fixture

With Miley playing for the youth side on Tuesday night, it feels all but certain that he will not be involved in the senior squad to face Liverpool.

Howe is keen for the teenager to get minutes under his belt after his recovery from injury, but that is going to be difficult in the Premier League. The Newcastle United manager has a lot of options in the middle of the park, which means Miley will struggle to feature.

For now, the Toon wonderkid must settle for playing for the Under-21s. But that should not concern Miley, as he will know it is all part of his journey. Opportunities at senior level will come his way, with Howe recently describing Miley as an ‘unbelievable athlete’.

While Miley gets set to miss tonight’s game against Arne Slot’s side, Howe must decide who to start in midfield.

Sean Longstaff is pushing for a recall, and features in our predicted Newcastle XI to face Liverpool.
