Man Utd prepare to ‘move forward’ to sign £66.3m Seleccao player – Report

Old Trafford

Having signed Ruben Amorim as their new manager, Manchester United will surely have a stronger knowledge base in bringing talented young players from Portugal.

Having spent so many years with Sporting CP, the coach will be able to help the club out.

Signing players from Portugal doesn’t necessarily pertain to just Sporting CP, Amorim’s former club. He would have seen other talented young players at other clubs he couldn’t have signed then but can do so now.

One such player Man Utd are being linked with is Tomas Araujo of Benfica. As per The Sun, in a recent report, the Reds Devils are planning to sign the talented Portuguese defender and bring him to Old Trafford to reinforce defensive depth.

Now, as per A Bola (news image provided below), Manchester United are preparing to ‘move forward’ to sign the 22-year-old defender. He has been a regular for Benfica so far this season and has already won his first Portugal cap.

The report mentions that the Red Devils might have to trigger his release clause for around £66.3m. It is expected that the price could raise even higher with time and the Red Devils will have to act quickly if they want to sign him.

Araujo has interest from Spain, France and the Premier League with clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United being linked.

The report also mentions that Benfica considering Araujo, who made his debut for the senior Portugal international side during the last break, unsellable in January and could prove to be a tough nut to crack.

It remains to be seen if Man Utd manage to sign Tomas Araujo. If they indeed sign the Seleccao player, it would be a good addition to an impressive squad and let’s wait and see how that plays out.
