Rangers don’t have a lot of money to spend so, when they do spend it, they need to get value for money.
In recent seasons, £4m+ fees have been spent on Ridvan Yilmaz, Ben Davies, Cyriel Dessers, Danilo and Oscar Cortes to bolster the squad, and there are still question marks about all of them.
Another name to add to that list is Mohamed Diomande who, if Rangers take up the offer to sign Carny Chukwuemeka from Chelsea, could fall even further down the pecking order.

Rangers star at threat if Carney Chukwuemeka is signed
Signed as a box-to-box midfielder, the Ivory Coast international started his Ibrox career brightly and was tipped for the top by Philippe Clement.
The manager clearly had his eye on Diomande for some time, but as yet, things haven’t quite gone according to plan.
On paper, Diomande is exactly what Rangers need; a box-to-box midfielder, capable of avoiding pressure, of linking play, and scoring goals.
This season, Rangers have looked more solid with Connor Barron and Nicolas Raskin in the deeper roles and with Diomande higher up.
That his best performances have come in the Europa League hasn’t been missed though with Ianis Hagi’s display against St Johnstone setting the benchmark for the former Midtjylland midfielder.

Can Diomande reach the level needed to be Rangers success?
Speaking after the 4-1 win over Nice, when Diomande was a standout, the 23-year old is fully aware that he is yet to hit top gear:
“I’m happy the gaffer trusts me. And I’m happy that my team-mates also know that I’m going to give my best. It was not my best game at the weekend, but I won’t say Thursday is my top performance either – there’s more I can show,” proclaimed Diomande.
“I’m always going to work for my team and show that I’m there to make a difference, to get on the ball. It’s not always going to be good but I’m always going to show that I want to be on the ball and I want to do what I’m good at doing.”
If Rangers sign Chukwuemeka, Diomande will have an even bigger fight for minutes on his hands, unless he starts to show the level that everyone knows he is capable of.
