Arsenal and Liverpool locked in battle to sign 23-year-old MLS attacker: Reports

Mikel Arteta

Mikel Arteta's side and Arne Slot's outfit are both keen to sign a winger.

Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly expected to battle it out against one another in the race to sign Los Angeles Galaxy forward Gabriel Pec in the future.

Pec, 23, has popped up as a vital starter for LA Galaxy since arriving from Vasco da Gama for close to £8 million earlier this January. He guided his club to second spot in the Major League Soccer (MLS) Western Conference standings and has also helped his side reach the MLS Cup final in the recent past.

Since leaving his boyhood club, the left-footed Brazilian forward has started 37 of his 40 total appearances for LA Galaxy. He has found the back of the opposition net 21 times and laid out 18 assists in just 3362 minutes of first-team action.

As a result, according to Caught Offside, Arsenal and Liverpool have decided to keep tabs on Pec with the intention of signing him. However, they are expected to face difficult competition from Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, Napoli, Newcastle United, Fulham, Crystal Palace, and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Before joining LA Galaxy, Pec registered 26 goals and 14 assists in 178 overall appearances for Vasco da Gama during a four-year stint.

Arsenal great Ian Wright names one thing that could stop Liverpool from winning league title

Speaking on The Kelly & Wrighty Show, Arsenal great Ian Wright revealed how Liverpool could fail to lift the Premier League title at the end of the 2024-25 season. He said (h/t TBR):

"It will only be injuries to key players now. Not even the goalie, they don't even have their main goalkeeper, but with the way [Caoimhin] Kelleher is playing, you wouldn't believe Alisson can make better saves."

Wright, who scored 180 goals in 281 total games for Arsenal, added:

"You have to think to yourself, that's the only thing. Even if they do have a mishap like [losing 1-0 to Nottingham] Forest, since then it's been nothing, faultless. I believe they've kicked into a position now where you need to chase them, they need to lose three or four. I can't see it."

Liverpool, who are atop the Premier League table with 34 points from 13 games, are missing a number of players due to respective injuries now. Alisson Becker, Diogo Jota, Federico Chiesa, and Ibrahima Konate are a few who are doubtful.

The Merseyside outfit, who are nine points ahead of Mikel Arteta's side, will next be in action in the Premier League on Wednesday (December 4). They will lock horns with Newcastle United, who are in 11th spot now, at St. James' Park next.
