Manchester City fans are anticipating a busy January for the first time in quite a while.
With the club currently on a seven-game winless run, there’s been a lot of talk recently about new additions coming in during the winter window.
It’s not something we see very often at Manchester City. But the circumstances are a lot different this time around.
The loss of Rodri has proven very costly, and other experienced players just haven’t been performing as expected this season.
The form of Kyle Walker has been particularly alarming, and so, a new right-back may well be on the agenda in one of the next two windows. Walker left City fans irritated with the message he sent after the Liverpool defeat, with some not accepting the words of a consistent underperformer of recent times
Joshua Kimmich is a player Man City are thought to be keeping tabs on – and the club could be in a two-horse race for the German star.

Man City and Barcelona eye Kimmich as Bayern fear exit of potential future captain
Kimmich recently said he’d make a decision on his future in January, which is bound to place City on red alert.
Bayern want Kimmich to sign a new contract at the Allianz Arena. As things currently stand, he’ll leave as a free agent next summer, which would see him complete 10 years at the club.
Given his contract situation, speculation has been rife about his future.
Man City have been loosely linked with Kimmich for a while now, and Manchester City News caught up with transfer expert Graeme Bailey to gauge where the situation is currently at.
For him, City and Barcelona are the teams to watch out for.
He tells us: “I think it’s key for Kimmich, the fact that he’s waiting until January, he’s weighing up the options available to him. We know Pep is a huge fan, if you look back, they’ve spoken lovingly about each other.
“A chance to get a world talent like Kimmich, because he’s really discovered a lot of that form really. Bayern have said they see him as a future captain once Neuer departs. My understanding is that Bayern are worried that there’s interest there.
“Hansi Flick, his former coach, loves him as well. So I think Barca and City are the main two. For me, Kimmich just looks like one of those players who would fit City like a glove. He can play centre-half, he can play right-back, he is the archetypal Pep Guardiola player in many ways.
“So it will be no surprise that City will be at the table for him. And it will be up to the player. Does he want to continue at Bayern, or does he want to try something abroad? If he goes abroad, I firmly believe it will be between City and Barca and we’ll see what he decides. City are firmly in the mix for him, that’s for sure.”
Kimmich would be an excellent addition for Man City
Kimmich potentially would be such a brilliant addition for City, either in January for a cut-price fee, or next summer as a free transfer.
He is about to turn 30, but given the fact he’s in his prime and wouldn’t cost much, or anything at all, in terms of a transfer fee, has got to make him worth considering.
Joshua Kimimch for Bayern Munich (2015-present)
Appearances – 410
Goals – 42
Assists – 108
Trophies won – 20
He’s worked with Guardiola before and is impressively versatile.
But City certainly should fear Barcelona in this particular transfer battle. Kimmich has worked with Flick before, and his contract situation surely makes him very gettable for the cash-strapped Catalans.
