'I would be surprised' - Jacob Steinberg moots big change at West Ham this week

West Ham United suffered their third defeat in the last five games on Tuesday night, losing 3-1 to Leicester City in the Premier League.

The Hammers find themselves 14th in the table after 14 games, with 15 points on board.

West Ham have lost 50% of their games already this season, and Julen Lopetegui is under a lot of pressure.

The Spaniard, who took over from David Moyes in the summer, has made a poor impression among the fans, although he was properly backed in the summer market.

After the latest defeat, Jacob Steinberg of The Guardian wrote on X that he would be very surprised if Lopetegui remains in charge for West Ham’s next game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday night.

The Athletic journalist Roshane Thomas wrote that Lopetegui should have been sacked after the defeat against Nottingham Forest.

Who could replace Lopetegui at West Ham?

Thomas is absolutely spot on. West Ham have a wealth of talent at their disposal. They have some fantastic players, but Lopetegui has failed to get the best out of them.

It is really painful to see them struggle badly. The Spaniard has constantly changed the starting line-up, and his methods are very confusing.

The Hammers board has previously backed their manager, but how long can they keep faith in him?

West Ham did not see tonight as a game that Lopetegui could lose. I would be surprised if he is in charge for Wolves.

According to a report from The Sun, West Ham have lined up three managerial candidates as potential options to replace Lopetegui.

Former Borussia Dortmund boss Edin Terzic is one of the candidates the club like most. Portuguese boss Sergio Conceicao is another option for the Hammers, while Graham Potter is also being targeted.

Potter would be a good option for the Hammers. He knows the Premier League well, and while his time at Chelsea did not turn out well, fans should remember the incredible job he did during his time at Brighton.
