Brighton man has ‘fallen into ostracism’ but club holding off sending him back to Seagulls

Defender Valentín Barco has now ‘fallen into ostracism’ at Sevilla, but they can’t decide whether to send him back to Brighton and Hove Albion.

That’s [according to Estadio Deportivo](https://www.estadiodeportivo.com/futbol/sevilla-fc/oportunidad-por-barco-sevilla-intereso-verano-sigue-libre-20241204-473479.html), who explain that while the defender is very much out of the picture at the Spanish club, simply sending him back to Brighton is not the simple answer it seems.

That’s because of the club’s poor financial situation, which has limited their ability to move on the market for a replacement.

Barco was supposed to help fix the issue at left-back this season but has not made a positive impression and now ‘fallen into ostracism’ under manager Garcia Pimienta.

There is the possibility of breaking the loan and sending him back to Brighton, but this would mean Sevilla would then need to enter the market to find an alternative.

They don’t have the money to do so, with funds already being scraped together so they can add a new forward in some capacity.

Thus, simply sending Barco back is not an option as they need to consider their stance and options to replace him if he does go. One would be Layvin Kurzawa, who is available on a free and was looked at in the summer.

But even then, he would be a gamble and potentially one not worth taking, even if signing from Barco from Brighton has not worked out at all.
