Report: The internal consensus at Chelsea is their'excellent'player is making positive strides in his game

There’s a belief at Chelsea that one of their first-team players is making really positive steps forward in his game this season.

This young and talented Chelsea squad is going to endure bumps in the road because of its inexperience, but everything feels like it’s moving in the right direction right now.

Enzo Maresca, the Blues manager, is starting to get this group gelling and impressing on the pitch. Maresca even predicts Chelsea can soon dominate English football once their young squad matures.

Chelsea happy with Benoit Badiashile progress

According to The Athletic, Chelsea defender Benoit Badiashile remains a highly valued player at Stamford Bridge despite the fact he’s struggled for Premier League minutes this season.

It is explained that the internal consensus within the club is that the 23-year-old central defender continues to make make positive developmental strides. There’s a feeling that the French colossus has his best years ahead of him, too.

Badiashile has played 11 games across all competitions so far this season, but he’s only featured four times in the league because Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana have been the starting partnership at centre-back.

Jason Cundy described Chelsea’s Badiashile as “excellent” after a recent performance. However, he also admitted that he’s still on the fence when it comes to the centre-half because he’s guilty of inconsistency.

It’s great news to hear that internally there’s still a lot of faith in the £35m defender.

Benoit Badiashile could now have big Chelsea chance

Unfortunately, Fofana was forced off through injury during the weekend’s win at home to Aston Villa. Maresca has confirmed Chelsea defender Fofana will miss a few weeks with this new injury problem, starting with Wednesday night’s league trip to Southampton.

As a result, there’s a big opportunity for a different centre-back in the group to come into the side and impress.

Badiashile surely has a good chance of starting versus Southampton after replacing Fofana during the Villa match. In fact, he started the league victory over Leicester City a week earlier as well.

Badiashile ticks so many boxes as a modern defender with his physical and technical attributes, but can he find the consistency in his game with a run of consecutive league starts?
