According to a report on Caught Offside, Chelsea are willing to allow forward Mykhalio Mudryk to join Premier League team Newcastle United. The Ukraine international has struggled since joining the west London side from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023 for a reported £62 million fee.
Mudryk has played 3613 minutes for the Blues in 73 games, scoring 10 goals and providing nine assists. The aforementioned report suggests that the Magpies are interested in signing the struggling forward and giving him a new lease of life. He is considered a potential replacement for Liverpool-linked Anthony Gordon.
While the 23-year-old Mudryk could first move to Newcastle on loan, his poor returns could see him sold for a much cheaper fee than he arrived for in west London. Mudryk is contracted to Chelsea until the summer of 2031.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca on gaining Premier League experience
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca recently reflected on his time managing the Premier League side so far. The Blues job is his first stint in charge of an English top flight team, and he has been impressive in the role so far.
Maresca succeeded Mauricio Pochetino at Stamford Bridge ahead of the ongoing season and has ushered the west London side into the top four in the table. Speaking with Sky Sports about his suitability for the role, the Italian said:
“The good part of this job is first of all to see the players improve and then to see the players happy. For me it’s the best feeling when you join a club and you can see how the players improve, how they are happy working that way.
"I don’t doubt myself. The only thing I can say is all Premier League managers, Eddie Howe when he started (at Newcastle), he had experience? No. Pep (Guardiola) when he started at Barcelona, experience? No. Mikel (Arteta) when he started at Arsenal? No. When you started as a journalist? Experience? No."
Maresca concluded, saying:
“We all are in the same situation. When you start you don’t have experience. You can’t go to the supermarket and buy experience. You need time. It’s not only for me, it’s for all of us in different jobs. But in terms of doubting myself? No.”
Chelsea face Southampton in the Premier League on Wednesday, December 4, and currently sit in third place, level on points with second-placed Arsenal. Both sides are nine points behind table-leaders Liverpool after 13 games.
