Former Arsenal assistant manager Steve Round has said that Mikel Arteta and his side won’t be worried ‘one bit’ about taking on Manchester United under new head coach Ruben Amorim.
The Portuguese boss took over from Erik ten Hag in November. He is currently unbeaten in his three matches in charge of the club, coming out as 4-0 winners over Everton at the weekend.
They do face their toughest test so far on Wednesday (8.15pm kick-off) when they travel to the Emirates Stadium to take on Arsenal. After a blip earlier in the season, the Gunners have now re-found their form.
Their last three games have seen them record three wins, scoring 13 goals in the process and conceding just three. Goals from Gabriel, Leandro Trossard, Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka saw them come out as 5-2 winners over West Ham on Saturday.
Round spent two-and-a-half years as Arteta’s assistant manager at Arsenal, joining just after the Spaniard was appointed. He has given an insight into what Arteta’s thoughts may be ahead of the clash against United.
When asked if it’s a bad time for Arsenal to play United, following the appointment of Amorim, Round brushed off that suggestion. He instead highlighted Arsenal’s recent form.
“I don't think Arsenal will be bothered about that one bit at the moment,” he told Footy Accumulators. “I think they've recaptured their form. They've got nearly everybody fit and refreshed, and they look a really good side right now.
“It doesn't matter who Arsenal are going to play and when. You've got to play everybody, so they'll be really confident, especially at home.”
Following the game against United, Arsenal are quickly back in Premier League action at the weekend. They face a short trip to Craven Cottage to take on Fulham on Sunday afternoon (2pm kick-off).
