United Are Eyeing Swoop For 13 Goal Spanish Ace Who Saw£34.5M Transfer To Chelsea Collapse Last Summer

Manchester United are keeping close tabs on Porto striker Samu Aghehowa, according to the Daily Mail.

The English tabloid claims that the Red Devils are “gathering information” on the Spanish international after his impressive start to the season in Portugal.

Aghehowa (who formerly went by his father’s surname Omorodion) only joined Porto from Atletico Madrid in the summer.

In what was a very unusual deal, the Liga Portugal side own 50% of his sports rights, having paid an initial €15m fee, but they can then pay two further instalments of €5m each to secure 80% over the next two years.

Porto are very likely to do just that considering Aghehowa’s form this campaign. The 20-year-old has scored 13 goals in 16 appearances.

Aghehowa could have been playing in the Premier League this season

Chelsea reportedly agreed a fee of £34.5m to sign the forward back in July. However, a couple of issues led the transfer to collapse.

An ankle problem which was flagged in his medical led the Blues havinf doubts and the move was then called off after a disagreement over image rights. Speaking out about what happened back in October, Aghehowa said:

“It was a very difficult summer. When I was in Madrid I had a very bad time. In the end, thank God, everything turned out well. If the Chelsea deal didn’t work out it was for a reason and in the end everything turned out well.”

United are expected to sign a new No.9

Despite the presence of both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee in the first-team squad, there is an expectation that the Red Devils will buy another striker next year.

Some were expecting the club to pursue a more experienced player, such as Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres, but it seems Aghehowa is another name being considered by United’s recruitment team.
