Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has asserted that his former team could do well to have Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard in their squad.
Odegaard, who left Real Madrid to permanently join his current club in a potential £34 million switch in 2021, is considered one of the best playmakers in the world. He has transformed his club into title challengers in the last few seasons.
Speaking recently to online bookmaker Casino Utan Spelpaus, Saha showered praise on the Norway international ahead of Manchester United's league clash at Arsenal this Wednesday. He said (h/t Metro):
"Odegaard is someone that I really like. His intelligence as a provider is similar to Bruno Fernandes. I like his capacity to be in and out of the box. The area that he's playing, sometimes he's playing deep, sometimes he's playing really high. He provides the connection with the midfield and the strikers, so I really like his positioning."
Opening up on his desire to see Odegaard at United, Saha concluded:
"I would think that that's what United needs to create chances, to create a high tempo, to create a bit of extra quality. Technically, when there is a bit of pressure, you can still give him the ball and it doesn't matter to him. So I would say Odegaard, even if I think physically, we perhaps need a player like Declan Rice in midfield."
So far this season, the 25-year-old has found the back of the net once and registered three assists in eight overall appearances for his club.
Chris Sutton provides prediction for upcoming Arsenal-Manchester United league encounter
In his column for BBC, ex-Chelsea striker Chris Sutton predicted a 3-1 triumph for the Gunners in their Premier League home clash against Manchester United on December 4. He wrote:
"We have seen some classic games between these teams down the years, but Arsenal are a long way ahead of United, especially now Odegaard is back – he has taken them to the levels we were expecting from them all season. It would be a real eye-opener if United go to Emirates Stadium and get something, but I can't see it."
Arsenal are second in the 2024-25 Premier League standings with 25 points from 13 outings. Manchester United are ninth with 19 points right now.
The Gunners have registered seven wins, two draws, and just two losses in their last 11 games across all competitions against the Red Devils.
