West Ham turn to Denmark for new manager – Hammers looking at unusual Lopetegui replacement

Poor old Julen Lopetegui isn’t even out of the West Ham United job yet and there already appears to be an industry growing out of linking possible replacements.

The longer it went on, the more inevitable it became that Kasper Hjulmand would be thrown into the West Ham mix. That’s now happened, with Sky Deutschland’s Florian Plettenberg not missing the chance to make the link.

Hjulmand left his role with the Danish national team after Euro 2024 and has been without a management job since. He’s been linked to various opportunities, although those links have often felt somewhat exaggerated and perhaps encouraged by people whose task it is to place the Dane somewhere.

Meanwhile, Plettenberg has thrown himself headfirst into all kinds of rumours in recent days. Whilst the law of averages says some will be true, the same law also says that the vast majority will be at the very least exaggerated.

Therefore, whilst this latest West Ham link is one to keep an eye on it’s probably best to wait for more. Not least, Lopetegui’s actual exit.
