Liverpool were embroiled in a tricky transfer saga with Anthony Gordon in the summer transfer window.
The England international emerged as a target for the Reds and with Newcastle United willing to sell at the time to fall in line with the PSR guidelines, a transfer looked like it was on the cards.
Liverpool even scheduled a medical for Gordon in the England training camp at Euro 2024 as they agreed a £75m fee for him, with Joe Gomez joining Newcastle in a separate deal worth £45m.
However, the deal didn’t come to fruition as Gordon remained on Tyneside as he put pen to paper on a contract extension.
And now, reports from England claim Trent Alexander-Arnold was in Gordon’s ear about a potential move to Anfield.

Both players were in the England squad for Euro 2024 when talks of a potential transfer for Gordon surfaced.
Being a boyhood Red, Gordon was tempted by a move to Anfield and Newcastle’s precarious financial situation meant a deal was definitely on the cards.
According to a report from Daily Mail, Trent Alexander-Arnold sang ‘he’s coming home, he’s coming home’ to Gordon at the England camp as the pair believed the move to Liverpool was going to happen.

A medical was even scheduled in Leipzig, but the Magpies fell in line with the PSR guidelines as they offloaded Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest, due to which it wasn’t necessary to sanction Gordon’s sale.
Are Liverpool still interested in Gordon?
Gordon was in a bit of a rut after his failed move to Liverpool but has managed to get his season back on track at Newcastle.
He recently put pen to paper on a new contract, tying him down at St James’ Park until 2023.
Speaking exclusively to Rousing the Kop, Graeme Bailey said Liverpool are unlikely to make a move for Gordon in 2025 after his new contract was announced.
However, a lot could change in football and if Newcastle decide to put him on the market in the coming years, it remains to be seen if the Reds rekindle a move for him.
