Enzo Maresca has insisted he always thought Moises Caicedo playing at right back could be a really good option for Chelsea.
The Blues have made a really good start to the season and moved back into the top three, level on points with Arsenal in second after beating Aston Villa.
Chelsea have lost just two of their Premier League games this season and are looking to make it three wins in a row on Wednesday night against Southampton.
Marsesca always considered Caicedo at right back
The performance against Aston Villa was arguably the best of the season, with Maresca naming Caicedo, Romeo Lavia and Enzo Fernandez all in the team for the first time since the opening game of the season.
With Malo Gusto just coming from injury and Reece James sidelined, the Italian deployed Caicedo in the inverted right back role.
The Ecuador international put in another brilliant performance, and Ally McCoist thinks he looks like a different human compared to last season.

Caicedo has certainly put his initial struggles behind him following his British record £115m transfer from Brighton in 2023 and is arguably the best midfielder in the league currently.
The 23-year-old has spoken about how it’s a dream come true to be winning games at Chelsea, and everyone will be hoping he contributes to many more this season.
Caicedo will likely find himself back in midfield against Southampton on Wednesday evening and Maresca has been speaking about him as a right back option.
“When we move players like against Aston Villa, we think for that game it’s a good option and until now it’s happened many times and hopefully it happens again in the future,” he told Chelsea’s website.

“One thing I can say is since we started, Malo Gusto, who was playing inside from right-back, was probably the first one who helped us a lot in terms of that process because he gives us that option, because Romeo was injured and Moi was playing a different position.
“But we always thought Moi in that position, inside like against Aston Villa, could be a fantastic option for us.”
