Ian Kennedy believes Everton are about to enter a “nightmare sequence” of fixtures ahead of their “crucial” Premier League clash against Wolves on Wednesday.

The Toffees currently sit 17th in the table and are just two points ahead of 18th-placed Wolves.

Writing for the BBC Sport website (4 December), BBC Merseyside reporter Kennedy shared his thoughts on the next few games Everton have lined up.

“Obviously, the importance of Everton’s game against Wolves on Wednesday cannot be overstated,” he wrote.

“After Wolves come Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester City. A nightmare sequence of fixtures for anyone, but that is not to say Wolves is a given.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

“It is an opportunity on paper because Wolves are two points worse off, but Everton are not only without a goal since late October, they also now have to put Sunday’s defensive woes behind them.

“And that will be crucial against a Wolves side with 12 more goals than the Blues this season – although they too conceded four at the weekend”.

Everton must win Wolves to save their Premier League season

To be quite frank, this season has been rather forgettable for Everton with the Toffees once again finding themselves well and truy in the relegation battle.

After the summer transfer window they had which saw the likes of Iliman Ndiaye and Jake O’Brien come through the Goodison Park welcome doors, it feels like a lot more should have come from the team.

Of course, Sean Dyche has been at fault for some of the Toffees’ woes but a lot of it likely falls onto the heads of players such as Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto, who just can’t seem to find the back of the net.

Wolves are two points behind the Merseyside outfit in the league at the moment and if they lose Wednesday’s game against Gary O’Neil’s team, they’re going to be in a world of trouble.

While Dyche still likely won’t be sacked until The Freidkin Group takeover, if his team loses, there’s no way that he can stay in his role once the process has been completed.
