Sky Reporter Claims Club Are 'Seeking' £83M For Player Who Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea And Spurs All Want

Borussia Dortmund are “seeking” a fee of around €100m (£83m) for Liverpool target Jamie Gittens, according to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg.

The journalist says that the 20-year-old is being “closely monitored” by the Reds, as well as Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham.

Gittens has had a good start to the season, having scored 8 goals and contributed 4 assists in 19 appearances so far. He got on the scoresheet during the 1-1 draw against Bayern Munich at the weekend.

The winger came through the youth ranks of Reading and Manchester City before moving to Germany in September 2020.

Is Gittens the next Sancho?

The fact that he played for City before making his first-team breakthrough at Dortmund will inevitably lead to comparisons to Jadon Sancho.

It is fair to say, though, that Gittens has yet to really hit the heights of his fellow Englishman in terms of goals and assists. For that reason, it would be a surprise if any team considered paying the player’s reported asking price.

Liverpool don’t need any more options on the left flank

Gittens is a right-footed winger who prefers to play off the left-hand side. He has played on the opposite flank but it isn’t his preferred position.

With that being the case, it would be odd if the Reds were seriously contemplating a move for the England Under 21 international.

Cody Gakpo is in excellent form and, along with Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota, head coach Arne Slot is well stocked for options on the left wing.

If the Reds do go into the market for a winger in the near future, it will most likely be to find a replacement for Mo Salah. Speaking after his goal and assist against Manchester City on Sunday, the Egyptian once again acknowledged that he may be playing his last season for the club. His contract expires this summer.
