Mikel Arteta had huge praise for one Arsenal player during his press conference on Tuesday, ahead of the game against Manchester United.

Thomas Partey had started nearly every game this season leading up to match against West Ham last weekend. When the Ghanian was unavailable Mikel Arteta turned to 32-year-old Jorginho to take his place.

The Italian may not be the first choice option, however his contribution on and off the pitch cannot be underestimated. In a young Arsenal side, his experience is invaluable, having won the Premier League and Champions League multiple times during his career.

Jorginho knows how to win, which is why the players, and even the coaching staff, listen to him greatly. Mikel Arteta definitely appreciates the 32-year-old and everything he brings to the team.

Jorginho Mikel Arteta

Mikel Arteta speaking on Jorginho’s contribution: “That’s his quality. I think I always mention that his biggest quality is the capacity he has to make others better. And last season, it was the same at the start.

“There are fewer games, you don’t play that many minutes, and he had less time to play. I always told him: be ready, because the time is going to come when we need him.

“In one way, you’re going to play now or you’re going to play tomorrow. And the way he prepares is top so when he needs to play, he’s always ready.

Mikel Arteta on Jorginho feeling like a coach: “That was my feeling when he was already at Napoli. That was the first time I scouted him as a coach here, for sure. And yeah, he’s got that will.

“He’s been doing the courses now for a period of time with all the players as well so I’m sure he will prepare and he will be very good.”
