Marc Guehi has explained his decision to wite on his Rainbow armband

Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi has explained his decision to write a religious message on the Rainbow armband he worse against Newcastle and Ipswich.

Saturday's draw with the Magpies was Palace's dedicated Rainbow Laces game, with Guehi writing the message 'I love Jesus' in black ink over the top of the armband. He then wrote 'Jesus loves you' over the armband he worse in the win over Ipswich on Tuesday.

Mirror Football revealed on Tuesday afternoon that the FA contacted Palace and Guehi to 'formally remind' them the appearance on, or incorporation in, any item of clothing, football boots or other equipment of any religious message is prohibited as stated in Rule A4 of the kit and advertising regulations.

Despite that warning, Guehi repeated his move to write on the armband later on Tuesday for the trip to Portman Road. The England international has now outlined his motivation.

Guehi told Sky Sports News: "I think the message was pretty clear to be honest. It was a message of love, of truth as well. And a message of inclusivity. So it speaks for itself."
