David Beckham's son Romeo has sent his support to Arsenal ahead of this evening's big clash with Manchester United in the Premier League.
Beckham Snr made 391 appearances for United during his stellar career. He lifted the Premier League with them on six occasions and won the Champions League as part of a Treble in 1999.
And yet, while most of his family support United, his son Romeo does not. Instead, his 22-year-old son and former footballer is a big Arsenal supporter.
Explaining this anomaly to Rio Ferdinand, Beckham Snr explained: "He was really young and we were in London one Friday and he was like: '‘Dad let’s go to a game this weekend.' So I started to look at the fixtures and I was like: 'Uh, Arsenal are at home.'
"So I thought, do you know what, they’re always really nice to me when I go down to watch United and Arsenal, and I thought okay, they’ll look after us, there won’t be any hassle getting in. No hassle, sat there.
"So we walked in, amazing seats. Sat in the director’s box.
"Lunch was unbelievable before the game - it was like wagyu, full on, everything. So we walk in, I’m sat there and then Arsene [Wenger] walks in the room and he comes straight over to the table, introduces himself to Romeo, and he says: ‘Come with me son.'
"So he takes him down to the changing room, meets all the players, gives him a shirt, signed, takes him onto the pitch, walks him back up to the table and then gives him an Arsenal cashmere scarf, and that was it. It was done. I’ve tried to change his mind since but impossible."
Beckham Jnr's affection for Arsenal continues to live on as shown with his social media activity on Wednesday. Posting on Instagram, he wrote: "Big game in the old Beckham household today, come on you Gunners."
Of course, his father felt inclined to respond. "Big game for you lot," he wrote accompanied with a laughing emoji, "just another game for us."
