Ange Postecoglou faces nightmare scenario ahead of crucial December fixtures

As the Premier League season nears the midway point, the number of players at risk of suspension due to yellow cards accumulated is growing. If a player picks up five bookings in the top flight before the 19th game of the campaign, then they'll be handed a one match suspension.

Tottenham Hotspur already have a number of players missing due to injury, including the likes of Micky van de Ven, Richarlison, Cristian Romero and goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario. However, they also have a handful of players at risk of picking up said one-game suspension if they receive another yellow card in the coming weeks.

Van de Ven is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, but already has four yellow cards to his name. If he is to pick up another booking upon his return to action, which Ange Postecoglou has previously indicated could be a matter of weeks away, he will then have to sit out another game due to suspension.

It's a similar story for Rodrigo Bentancur, who is already serving a seven-game suspension imposed by an independent regulatory commission following comments made by the midfielder in a media interview. He is expected to be available for selection again when Spurs take on Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day, but another booking would result in a further one-game suspension.

Elsewhere, Dejan Kulusevski and Yves Bissouma, who have both featured heavily this season, are two bookings away from having to sit a game out. With six league games between now and the new year, the pair are certainly walking a tight rope as they look to avoid suspension during the busy winter fixture list.

Spurs are away at Bournemouth on Thursday evening and then host Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday evening. Their remaining league games before Christmas include clashes with Southampton and leaders Liverpool.
