Arsenal have joined the race for Matheus Cunha, according to a report.

The Gunners are in the market for a striker. After missing out on Benjamin Sesko in the summer, Arsenal decided to head into the season without a new No.9 signing.

It was a decision that led to some consternation when results turned sour in recent weeks, but back-to-back five-goal performances have once again lifted the mood.

Still, Arsenal have not forgotten about the striker position, especially in light of Gabriel Jesus' struggles. Brazilian media reported earlier on Wednesday that the Gunners are open to a January departure.

In terms of replacements, the usual names like Viktor Gyokeres, Alexander Isak and Benjamin Sesko are being linked with Arsenal, but now a new star has entered the fray.

Arsenal eye Cunha

*CaughtOffside*claims that Arsenal are among the clubs with an interest in Wolves star Matheus Cunha, who has been prominently linked with Man Utd.

The Brazilian is one of the Premier League's in-form players right now, having netted seven goals in 13 appearances while also contributing with three assists. It is asserted that contact with the 25-year-old has already been made.

However, a January transfer may be difficult to pull off. Wolves boss Gary O'Neil emphatically ruled out a winter sale recently, insisting that he had 'zero concerns' about the interest in Cunha.

"I want everyone in the world to want him," O'Neil said last week. "That is my job, to help Matheus perform at the highest level possible, so no concerns at all. And also Mine and Matheus' relationship and his understanding of what we're trying to do here is exceptionally good.

"So I don't foresee any problems at all in January with Matheus Cunha. Contract-wise, I'll leave that to the club. Matheus won't leave in January, definitely not."
