Manchester City will be without the services of Phil Foden for the foreseeable after the attacking midfielder picked up bronchitis following the defeat to Liverpool in the Premier League.
The 24-year-old started at Anfield on Sunday and lasted 80 minutes. However, since then he has suffered the illness which affects a person's lungs causing them to struggle when completing exercise.
According to the NHS website, people normally get better from bronchitis after three weeks without further treatment. If this is the timescale for Foden's absence, the England international will be out of action until the Christmas period.
Foden missed the early parts of this season with fatigue after representing England at Euro 2024 in the summer. His absence means he joins Mateo Kovacic, John Stones, Rodri and Oscar Bobb on the sidelines for this evening's clash with Nottingham Forest.
Further injury problems for Pep Guardiola is only going to add to the tension surrounding City this evening and could play into the hands of Arsenal who are competing with the defending champions for the Premier League this season. The Gunners take part in the late kick-off at the Emirates Stadium this evening when they take on Manchester United. Victory over United could close the gap to Liverpool to just six points should they lose at Newcastle United.
As for City, they will be hoping to arrest their slump across all competitions with a winless run which now stretches back for seven matches. They have not won before today's matches since the end of October against Southampton.
