"Not comfortable with him starting" - Fans question Amorim's decision to include Manchester United star in XI to face Arsenal

close

Manchester United fans were left questioning manager Ruben Amorim's decision to include Tyrell Malacia in the starting lineup to face Arsenal. The two sides will face off at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League on Wednesday, December 4. Some fans tweeted that they're 'not comfortable with him starting'.

Before his start against Bodo/Glimt in the UEFA Europa League (November 28) Malacia hadn't made an appearance for United in over a year. He suffered a knee injury in the summer of 2023 that kept him sidelined for the 2023-24 campaign and the first half of the current season.

With Luke Shaw suffering a new muscular injury that will keep him out for a few weeks, Malacia is expected to have a bigger role for Manchester United. While it is an opportunity for him to establish himself as a solid first-team player, fans haven't taken too kindly to his inclusion in the starting line-up.

One fan wrote on X:

"I'm not comfortable with Tyrell Malacia starting man. Amad and Rashford on the bench as well."

"Malacia is going to struggle for pace."

Here is a selection of fan reactions (via X):

"No Amad is such a bummer. Malacia at LWB may be a horror show today. Assuming that's why Maz is playing LCB though," @brenna17oleary noted.

"Malacia starting at Emirates (Arsenal's stadium), I no longer recognize my club," @_rtch1 claimed.

"Saka vs Malacia, I'm crying already," @Boluwatife_FAB wrote.

"Malacia isn't even PL quality and we're putting him up against Saka, what a horrendous decision," @Polo763_ opined.

"Malacia's first league start in almost 2 years and it's against Saka in his scary form. God be with him," @Gideoomatic wrote.

"Malacia vs Saka, I don’t think I have the strength in me," @Saddam_KE wrote.

"Amorim thinks this the fa cup fixture what do you mean Malacia is starting," @Michael_Grigs26 questioned.

"Malacia & maguire at the back this is going to be a long night," @Lmc_89 wrote.

After 13 rounds of fixtures, Manchester United sit ninth in the Premier League table with five wins, four draws, and four losses (19 points).

"I will do everything I can" - Manchester United defender Luke Shaw sends message to fans after latest injury

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has sent a message to his fans after suffering another muscular injury that will keep him sidelined for a few weeks.

Shaw has missed over 85 games for United since the start of 2023. He recently returned from a knee injury, making cameos against Ipswich Town and Everton (34' each) in the Premier League. He also featured against Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League (30').

After picking up a new muscular injury, the 29-year-old was left devastated. He expressed his exasperation in a message to his fans on Instagram that read:

"Hi guys, it's hurting a lot having to write this as I really thought I had got through my recent struggles and was on a positive path going forward, but unfortunately I've had a small setback."

"There is no one feeling that more than me at this moment in time. But what I can promise is, I will do everything I can to come back better soon to help this club achieve its ambitions this season," Shaw added.

In Shaw's absence, Tyrell Malacia will play as the left wing-back for Manchester United in their crucial Premier League fixture against second-placed Arsenal.
