David de Gea shows where his loyalties lie with four-word Man Utd admission

David de Gea is now with Fiorentina

David de Gea teased Arsenal as he reminded them of his record-breaking Manchester United display.

The two sides come together at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday evening. The game comes almost seven years to the day of the Red Devils’ 3-1 win against the Gunners back in 2017.

The Spaniard produced a record-breaking 14 saves in the game - the joint-most in Premier League history. The Premier League shared a throwback video showing De Gea ’s impressive reel of saves and he could not resist chiming in. Sharing the post on his Instagram, he also added the caption: “Not a bad day [silly face emoji]."

Speaking at the time of his eye-catching display, De Gea claimed that he felt ‘unbeatable’ after producing his saves. He said: "Sometimes, you just start a game with a really good save, with a good feeling, you feel that [unbeatable] but we started the game really well, we scored two important goals and it's true that we lost a bit of a control of the game after, but it was a good performance."

Ex-United boss Jose Mourinho was also full of praise having witnessed De Gea’s standout showing. He said: "I told De Gea after the match, what I saw today was the best from a goalkeeper in the world.

“I loved the way my team played and fought. Arsenal played in some period amazing attacking football - creating difficulties for us.

"But I have to say that my players deserve all the great words. I don't know so many in English but amazing, phenomenal, fantastic. They deserved three points."

Arsene Wenger was also left frustrated by De Gea’s performance. The Frenchman said: "David de Gea was man of the match by a clear mile.

"We played well but there is nothing more frustrating when you have that quality of performance and nothing to show for it at the end. The attitude was impeccable until the end. But you cannot make the mistakes we made at the beginning."

De Gea continued to shine for United after that outing. He played for the Red Devils until 2023, making 545 appearances and securing two Premier League golden gloves.

The Spanish stopper spent a year out of the game after leaving Old Trafford but joined Italian side Fiorentina earlier this season. He has since made 12 appearances, with five clean sheets in the time since.
