Unai Emery must substitute John McGinn at half-time against Brentford after a poor display for Aston Villa with little attacking impact.

The Villans go in at the break 3-0 up thanks to superb strikes from Morgan Rogers and Matty Cash as well as an Ollie Watkins penalty in a much better showing from the home side compared to recent weeks.

With that being said, the Spaniard won’t be completely happy with the performance in certain areas of his side with the skipper hardly involved in the opening 45.

This could see Emery opt to make a change at the break and replace the Scotland international.

The 30-year-old hasn’t been his usual self for many weeks and this was just summed up in the opening exchanges of the clash against the Bees.

This saw him register just 10 touches on the ball while completing just four passes despite his side going 2-0 up with less than 30 minutes gone.

This also saw him lose all of his attempted duels in a 0 per cent win rate which surely won’t wash well with Emery at half time.

When comparing his stats to those of his midfield teammates like Boubacar Kamara, the Scot has fewer passes, touches and duels won which McGinn typically thrives on.

A substitution to bring on another midfielder like Ross Barkley could be useful to solidify the midfield after his positive showing against Crystal Palace where he scored and contributed 48 passes and six duel wins in the centre of the park.

Despite it being 3-0, Emery still didn’t look best pleased and could take his annoyance out on his captain with a half time change.
