Wolves have crashed to yet another defeat in the Premier League against Everton to leave Gary O’Neil on the brink.
After the shambolic defeat to Bournemouth at the weekend, Wolves pitched up on Merseyside needing to respond.
But it was an utterly shoddy performance from Wanderers, who were outplayed and outfought by the Toffees.
Everton took the lead after Ashley Young converted a free-kick from just outside the box to become the oldest-ever scorer of a direct free-kick in the Premier League.
Wolves were then saved by VAR as James Tarkowski saw a header ruled out for an offside against Orel Mangala. But later on in the half Mangala did put Everton 2-0 up, scoring from outside the area after a poor clearance.
In the second-half, Wolves then conceded two more goals from set-pieces, as the team’s defensive woes were laid bare once again, with Craig Dawson scoring two own goals.
On a horrific night for Wolves that could cost Gary O’Neil his job, here’s how we rated the Wolves players in tonight’s game with Everton.

Jose Sa – 2
Needed a response after a horror show against Bournemouth but was just as poor. Positioned his wall wrong on the first Everton goal and might have got a stronger hand on Mangala’s shot for Everton’s second. Was weak for Everton’s third as Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored a header. Sam Johnstone surely has to start against West Ham.

Mario Lemina – 3
The Wolves captain operated on the right of a back three in the first-half and again didn’t look comfortable. Moved to midfield for the second-half but struggled to have an influence.
Craig Dawson – 2
Had an early miscommunication with Sa over an early backpass and struggled to recover. Has been credited with an own goal for Everton’s third. Lost Dominic Calvert-Lewis for the fourth. The veteran is usually so reliable, but is perhaps now starting to feel his age. Undoubtedly one of his worst performances in a Wolves shirt.
Santi Bueno – 4
On his return to the starting XI after injury, Bueno looked as shaky as those around him. Replaced by Toti Gomes on 76 minutes.
Matt Doherty – 3
In for the suspended Nelson Semedo – and will be straight back out against West Ham United. The Republic of Ireland international was caught out positionally several times and didn’t offer anything going forward.
Joao Gomes – 5
The Brazilian played in a pairing with Andre but struggled to have the same influence as during the four games that Wolves went unbeaten. That said, he put himself about as usual, never hid and battled hard, which cannot be said for some of his teammates. Replaced by Tommy Doyle for the closing stages.
Andre – 5
Neat and tidy at times but struggled to impose himself. Must be wondering why on earth he decided to join Wolves.
Rayan Ait-Nouri – 3
Ait-Nouri was criticised by Darren Bent for his performance against Bournemouth, and the Algerian produced little of note after one early foray down the left before crossing for Jorgen Strand Larsen, who couldn’t sort out his feet.
Goncalo Guedes – 3
There were many calls for him to start a Premier League, but it was an awful showing from the Portuguese forward. Barely threatened and struggled with the physicality of the game before being replaced by Hwang Hee-chan. He can have no complaints if he’s back on the bench against West Ham.
Matheus Cunha – 5
Should have scored with a good chance early on. Had he done so it could have been a very different game. Sloppy on the ball at times, but did occasionally threaten. Ashley Young getting Player of the Match is a poor reflection on Wolves’ talisman.
Jorgen Strand Larsen – 4
Spurned a number of presentable opportunities, which was surprising to see given the good form he’s been in recently. Worked hard as he always does, but not a good night for him and an awful night for the team.
