Arsenal kept alive their Premier League title hopes with a 2-0 victory over Manchester United on Wednesday night.
The Red Devils arrived at The Emirates off the back of a 4-0 win against Everton but, after a goalless first half, defenders Jurrien Timber and William Saliba gave the hosts the lead.
Mikel Arteta’s side held out to record an important win and close the gap to leaders Liverpool to seven points, after the Reds drew 2-2 with Newcastle United.
Arteta will be hopeful that his side can continue their recent good run of form and go one better than last term, when they finished as runners-up behind champions Manchester City.
Off the pitch, though, things don’t appear to be going so well for the Gunners as they appear to have been rebuffed in their pursuit of a Serie A star.
As per Football Transfers, the North London side have made an approach for AC Milan winger Rafael Leao.
Leao has attracted interest from Arsenal
The report claims that Arsenal contacted the Portuguese’s representatives in an effort to gauge how likely a transfer could be, but the player has insisted that he will not leave Milan during the upcoming January window.
The 25-year-old signed for Milan from French side Lille five years ago, and has since established himself as one of the best attacking players in the Italian top flight.
In total he has scored 63 goals and registered 55 assists in 228 games across all competitions, including 50 goals in Serie A.
The Portugal international has repeatedly been linked with a move away, with Premier League sides and Spanish giants Barcelona regularly touted as potential destinations.
He was rewarded with a new contract last year, though, and is therefore tied down to the Italian side until the summer of 2028.
