Liverpool only had themselves to blame after coming up short against Newcastle on Wednesday.
The Reds were poor for much of the match, perhaps suffering something of a hangover from successive wins over Real Madrid and Man City.
Newcastle looked to punish them, scoring with an Alexander Isak thunderbolt in the first-half before getting themselves back in-front in the second-half.
Liverpool then had Mohamed Salah to thank for turning the game around.
The Egyptian King fired home two brilliant finishes to put the Reds within touching distance in what would have been a huge three Premier League points.
Unfortunately, though, Caoimhin Kelleher gifted Newcastle a late equaliser, with the goal no doubt being cheered heartily at the Emirates Stadium, where Arsenal were busy beating Man United 2-0.

Declan Rice reacts to Liverpool draw
Arsenal supporters will have pencilled Liverpool’s trip to Newcastle in as a potential game for the Reds to drop points in.
The Gunners were beaten 1-0 at St James’ Park themselves not too long ago.

And having seen off United 2-0, Declan Rice was interviewed by Amazon Prime Sport on the pitch straight after full-time whistle. Told the Liverpool result by reporter Gabriel Clarke, Rice gave his reaction.

“Yeah, it’s good,” said the midfielder. “Look, people get carried away with title talk. I was involved in my first one last year and you just need to be in and around it in February time. It’s too early to call what’s going on.
“Liverpool have dropped points, it’s closer but still a long way to go, we’ll keep believing in ourselves and see what happened.”
What next for Liverpool and Arsenal
Liverpool missed a big chance to maintain their nine point cushion in the Premier League on Wednesday.
The game against Newcastle always looked like a tough one, but they’d done so well to get themselves into a position to win the three points.
It will remain to be seen whether the single point gained will ultimately be seen as a good one.
Part of that reasoning will be whether Liverpool can collect all three points in the final Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park on Saturday. Win there and it’s a good week.
Anything but a victory, though, and Kelleher’s mistake will start to look more costly. As for Arsenal, they have a slightly awkward looking fixture away to Fulham.
