Manchester United’s lacklustre performance against Arsenal drew harsh criticism from club legend Roy Keane, who labelled Marcus Rashford “general play as a footballer” as “shocking” during a live watchalong onThe Overlap.
The Red Devils fell 2-0 to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night in a match that underscored the growing gap between the two sides. After a cagey first half, Arsenal seized control in the second, with goals from Jurrien Timber and William Saliba sealing the victory.
Roy Keane, known for his no-nonsense analysis, did not hold back in his critique of United’s performance. “I’ll tell you something, Marcus Rashford’s come on. His general play as a footballer is shocking,” said the former Old Trafford captain.

“Watch his header there. Have United’s subs given anything since coming on? Nothing. The subs have done nothing. Manchester United deserve nothing anyway. They were rubbish.”
Keane added that he was disappointed by United’s lack of dynamism, saying, “You know what happens with United? They fool you, they fool you. They’re not dynamic.”

Asked if he saw any promising signs from United, Keane responded bluntly: “Not tonight, no. I’m really disappointed. I thought the players were going through the motions a little bit. It was easy for Arsenal. The first half was fine, but I was expecting a bit more.”
Arsenal’s victory further underscored their dominance from set-pieces, a hallmark of Mikel Arteta’s tenure. The breakthrough came in the 53rd minute when Declan Rice’s corner was headed in at the near post by Jurrien Timber.

United had a brief moment of defensive resilience as Manuel Ugarte cleared off the line after Joshua Zirkzee flicked on another Rice corner. However, Arsenal doubled their lead in bizarre fashion when Thomas Partey’s header ricocheted off William Saliba’s back and into the net past United goalkeeper Andre Onana.
The Gunners have now scored 22 goals from corners since the start of last season, more than any other Premier League side.
The win allowed Arsenal to capitalise on Liverpool’s slip-up, trimming the Reds’ lead at the top of the Premier League table. Arsenal now sits third with 28 points, level with Chelsea and seven points behind leaders Liverpool, managed by Arne Slot.
