Bruno Guimaraes has mixed emotions after Newcastle United’s 3-3 draw with Liverpool.
The Newcastle United captain was outstanding on Wednesday night, as Eddie Howe’s side provided the response that Toon fans were hoping for after poor performances against West Ham and Crystal Palace.
It was an enthralling game at St James’ Park, and one that Newcastle United will feel they deserved to win. They were in front twice, while the referee’s decision to blow the full time whistle when the Magpies were on the break was infuriating.
For Bruno Guimaraes, it was his 100th Premier League game, and he marked it by providing two assists. His first was excellent, with a beautiful pass into Alexander Isak allowing the Swede to open the scoring. It was the type of through ball that we need to see more of from Bruno, especially with Sandro Tonali taking his place as the deepest midfielder.
While it was an outstanding personal performance from Bruno that was headlined by his two assists, the Brazil international believes Newcastle should have got more than just a point.

Bruno Guimaraes’ message to Newcastle fans after drawing with Liverpool
After Newcastle’s 3-3 draw with Liverpool, Bruno took to his official Instagram account to deliver a message to supporters.
He wrote: “A mix of emotions about today’s game. Happy to have reached 100 games in the Premier League and to have helped with two assists, but I believe we deserved a better outcome. We move forward together and must keep fighting the same way from now on. Thank you for the support, NUFC fans!”

Newcastle United and Bruno set their new standard
Bruno’s assessment is fair. Newcastle United are right to feel they deserved more out of the game. However, they should be proud that they managed to at least get a point after going 3-2 behind.
In fairness to Liverpool, they got better as the game went on and played very well in the second half. When they went in front, it was difficult to envision Newcastle getting back into it.
But they did, with Fabian Schar getting on the end of Bruno’s free-kick.
Despite the result, Newcastle should be much happier with their performance. Eddie Howe’s major stars all delivered, which has been a rarity this season. Bruno, Isak, Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali were all outstanding, and proved how good this Newcastle United team can be when everyone is at their best.
But doing it against Liverpool and the other ‘big six’ clubs is one thing, the real challenge is doing it on a consistent basis no matter the opposition. That is what Newcastle United now need to do, starting away to Brentford on Saturday.
As for Bruno, he too has found his standard. I questioned Bruno’s role in the team after the draw against Palace, as it was clear that he would have to play as a number eight moving forwards. And at a time when the Magpies needed more creativity in central areas, he provided that.
Credit to the captain, who should be very proud of his 100th Premier League appearance.
