“None of us predicted this” – Former Chelsea player amazed by current Blues progress

Genuinely, not one single person would have predicted that Chelsea would be second in the league in December, at the start of the season.

But, it is now factual that this is where they are, and their progress has amazed one former Blues player who was speaking after Chelsea’s 5-1 away win at Southampton last night.

The game started very open and it looked like it could swing either way. But Chelsea soon started to gain a little more control and then Saints captain Jack Stephens decided to do something very stupid and pull Marc Cucucrella’s hair, getting him rightfully sent off.

Chelsea of course then went on to riot, scoring 5 goals in the game to add to the misery of bottom placed Premier League side, Southampton.

I got back to my first sentence, none of us predicted this.

Craig Burley certainly didn’t…Image

Burley said after the game on ESPN:

“IfChelsea go to Spurs and win, the confidence it’s going to give them hanging onto the coat-tails of Liverpool is something they’ve been nowhere near for quite some time. None of us predicted this, but it’s down to the players and the manager.

“The legsChelsea have got in midfield, the ability to win the ball back and tackle, is pretty scary. The job Moises Caicedo does off the ball is amazing. He gets these tackles in where you think, ‘How has he done that?’.”

Chelsea certainly are on the tails of Liverpool, because they were also held to a draw against Newcastle last night and to be honest, it could have gotten even better for Chelsea because Liverpool were actually lucky in the end to get the one point against Newcastle United last night.
