Shrewsbury Town Women ready to make supporters proud against Wolves

There is a mouthwatering clash in store for Salop as they play in the third round of the FA Cup for the first time in their history on Sunday at the New Bucks Head - the home of Wolves Women.

The match, played two weeks after Town's dramatic second-round penalty shootout win against Sheffield FC, will see Darel Tidman-Poole's side make the short trip down the M54 to Telford.

Shrews, who play in tier five of the women's football pyramid, take on Dan McNamara's Wolves side, who play in tier three.

But despite the difference in levels, Hudson-Jones believes Salop can cause a cup upset.

She said: "We have had a great run, and people really believe that we can cause an upset, and I do.

"We do not go into any game to lose, we are going there to win, and the staff are putting together a really good game strategy to give us the best possible chance opportunity.

"We are keeping our feet firmly on the ground, and we are very realistic about this match, and it is going to be a really tough game. Wolves are a brilliant opposition, they are doing well.

"We want to challenge ourselves. We always want to challenge ourselves against top opposition because that is where we want to be in the future.

"We want to go there and put in a performance and make every one of our supporters proud. I want every player who gets onto that pitch to come off it really proud - no matter what the outcome is.

"We cannot wait. All around the club, it is buzzing, as we have never made it this far - it is a great experience for everyone involved."

And Hudson-Jones, who captained Wolves during her playing career, revealed Shrews have several connections with their local rivals.

"Myself, Leanne Rimmer and Brogan Cook (both directors of Shrewsbury's women's team), all used to play for Wolves," she continued.

"Darel used to coach there, and a few of the players used to play there.

"For myself and Leanne, we started our footballing journey at Wolves, so it has a special place in our hearts.

"We were there for years, and I ended up captaining the first team. I have always loved Wolves, and I always felt like we would get drawn against them.

"I always like to see them do well apart from this Sunday."
