AFC Telford Ladies 7 - 0 Newcastle Town

AFC Telford United Women returned to winning ways at the weekend with a 7-0 victory over bottom side Newcastle Town.

After being knocked out of the FA Cup to Tier 3 side Stourbridge, the Bucks picked up a couple of indifferent results firstly losing to Walsall in the league cup before a stalemate away to Rugby Town last week.

It was the third time they had faced their opponents having already beaten them 10-0 in the First Qualifying Round of the FA Cup before a 5-0 win away in the league. Manager Alex Owens handed a debut to Lessong Janneh who stepped up from the Under 18s after a series of impressive performances.

The deadlock was broken in the 10th minute after Janneh intercepted a ball on half way  before the ball ended up with Sasha Woodhouse on the far left hand side of the box. She unleashed a shot that sailed over the keeper into the top corner. On the half hour mark the scoreline was doubled with Janneh and Woodhouse involved once again. Sasha beat 3 Town defenders on the right before slipping in Liv Bellamy. Liv managed to poke the ball past the keeper before finishing at the second attempt.

Shortly before half time it was 3 as a superb Woodhouse cross from the right found Bellamy in the middle who finished confidently for her second of the game.

4 minutes into the second half and the lead was extended after a bouncing ball on the edge of the box was not dealt with. Up stepped leading scorer Charlotte Budd who rifled the ball into the top corner for her first of the day. Just four minutes later it was five after another ball into the box caused confusion in the Newcastle defence before a defender headed the ball past her own keeper.

With 9 minutes to go, Budd grabbed her second of the game finishing from 20 yards after a low bouncing shot deceived the keeper. The scoreline was complete as good work from Kaitlyn Richards set up Budd who finished confidently past the keeper for her hat trick. All in all a solid day for the Bucks making it back to back clean sheets and back to winning ways as attention now turns to Eccleshall away this weekend.
