Tottenham outcast Sergio Reguilon was involved on the bench against Fulham on Sunday
Tottenham Hotspur’s 1-1 draw with London rivals Fulham highlighted the squad’s weakened depth almost in every area of the pitch.
Ange Postecoglou has been dealing with several injury problems to his key players. Guglielmo Vicario, Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Wilson Odobert, Richarlison and Mikey Moore are all on the sidelines, while Rodrigo Bentancur is serving a seven-game domestic ban.
With the North Londoners competing on all fronts, the squad is getting stretched with every passing week with Vicario the latest to sustain an ankle fracture. As Tottenham navigate a challenging festive schedule, questions about squad depth, underused talents and frozen-out players loom large—and Sergio Reguilon finds himself at the centre of the discussion.

Sergio Reguilon is yet to play a single minute for Spurs this season.
Sergio Reguilon was frozen out of the Tottenham squad since the start of the 2024/25 campaign until the game against Fulham where he was named on the bench. He has yet to play a single minute of competitive football for Spurs ever since Ange Postecoglou took the reins in 2023.
The Spaniard spent the first half of last season on loan at Manchester United, before joining Brentford until the end of May. However, neither of them decided to sign him permanently from the Lilywhites.
Clubs from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are said to be monitoring the 27-year-old’s situation and are interested in signing him, despite the fact he hasn’t played a competitive game in six months. Sergio Reguilon is coming to the end of his contract (Transfermarkt) and is almost certain to leave Spurs on a free transfer in the summer—and perhaps even sooner than that.
Addressing the media on Wednesday ahead of the Bournemouth game, the Spurs boss, however, admitted Reguilon remains an option he may decide to use this season amid the injury crisis.
“He [Reguilon] is ready. He is training every day so part of the squad and we’re down in numbers, but there is also a reason why Reggy is in the last year of his contract with us. We’ll see how that all transpires but nothing wrong with his attitude. He is training every day and we literally have schoolboys on the bench, so we’re low down on numbers and he’ll probably be involved again tomorrow,” Postecoglou was quoted by Football London.

Destiny Udogie has nailed down the spot at left-back, but the Greek-Australian tactician must give him enough rest to avoid potential burnout. That could open the door for Reguilon to feature for Spurs.
The Madrid-born defender has no future at the club under Big Ange, yet could muster some minutes in this packed fixture list due to the squad being stretched thin. If the Tottenham boss can use Reguilon in this need of the hour and attract some potential suitors for him during the January transfer window, then so be it.
