Liverpool were among those interested in Martin Zubimendi back in the summer
Liverpool were unable to sign Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi last summer but could return with a fresh attempt.
Zubimendi saw his stock rise as he played his part in Spain's Euro 2024 triumph, coming off the bench to replace Rodri in the final. Liverpool were looking to land his services in the summer but the 25-year-old ultimately chose to remain with the La Liga outfit.
However he is though to be open to leaving the Spanish club next summer, reports the Daily Express. Zubimendi is understood to have a £50m buyout clause in his contract and there have been rumours of Sociedad wanting to offer the midfielder a new deal to remove the clause.
There has been no update on that front however which means the Merseyside outfit could land the Euro winner for a relatively modest fee in the current market, especially given the quality of the player and his age profile.

Liverpool ended up making no major signings in the summer, which was Arne Slot's first chance and changing the look of the squad. Federico Chiesa was their only arrival but the Italian has barely featured, not that it has stopped the Reds from excelling this term.
In midfield Slot has been able to unlock the potential in Ryan Gravenberch whilst the likes of Curtis Jones, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have all played their parts.
Van Dijk contract talks progress
The Reds have made a contract offer to Virgil van Dijk, according to the Athletic, as they look to end the uncertainty over his future. The Dutchman is one of three key players - Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold the others - who are currently free to leave in the summer.

Talks with Van Dijk have seen Liverpool table an opening bid to keep the centre-half, but it has fallen short of his expectations and so far there has been no breakthrough on the value or length of an extension, reports the Athletic. Discussions taken place for some time and continue.
Van Dijk's age hasn't seen his performances decline and, during the win over Manchester City at the weekend, the defender underlined his value with another stellar performance.
He is also clearly a Slot favourites and is one of only three Liverpool players, alongside Salah and Ryan Gravenberch, to have started every Premier League and Champions League game.
