Liverpool saw three points snatched away from them late on against Newcastle United thanks to a 90th-minute equaliser.
Fabian Schar’s late goal saw Liverpool’s winning run come to an end with the Reds now just seven points clear at the top of the Premier League, with Arsenal and Chelsea both winning to gain some ground on Arne Slot’s side.
With Slot sharing Caoimhin Kelleher’s disappointment after his late mistake to allow Newcastle equalise, Liverpool will want to regroup quickly with the final Merseyside derby of the Premier League era at Goodison Park coming up on Saturday.
Yet Pat Nevin was confused by Slot’s decision to not start one Liverpool star against Newcastle.

Nevin baffled with Trent Alexander-Arnold starting on the bench
Speaking on BBC Sport’s coverage, the pundit expressed his confusion at Trent Alexander-Arnold not starting for Liverpool, with the defender brought on in the second-half and making an immediate impact by assisting Mohamed Salah.
With Alexander-Arnold just coming back from a lengthy injury, it makes sense why the England international was rested for the first hour of the game for the Reds, especially with such a big game coming up on Saturday.

Yet for Nevin, the former Everton man was confused why Alexander-Arnold did not make the starting XI for Liverpool, especially with how impressive the right-back was when brought on in connecting with Salah down the flank.
Nevin said: “It didn’t take them much time to click into gear on that right-hand side after making those changes. You just wonder why Trent Alexander-Arnold did not start the game. He’s got a great understanding with Mohamed Salah. That is extraordinary.”

Alexander-Arnold should be back in Liverpool’s XI to face Everton
With Conor Bradley facing a lengthy absence from the Liverpool squad due to injury, the Reds are looking very short in the right-back department, especially with Joe Gomez frustrated with how much football he’s playing at fullback.
Yet with Alexander-Arnold impressing against Newcastle and looking fresher than ever, the England international could be ready to return to the starting XI this weekend against Everton in what will be a huge Merseyside derby.
Indeed, the defender has been exceptional for Liverpool this season and has looked incredible in the final-third alongside Salah, and Alexander-Arnold starting against Everton could be the difference in a win or more dropped points for the Reds.
