Arsenal continued their winning streak with a comfortable 2-0 Premier League victory over Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Gunners were far from their vintage best in the opening half. United were brilliant with their defensive organisation which frustrated some of the faithful.
The performance was much better after the break. Arsenal scored two goals from corners through Jurrien Timber and William Saliba to register a much-needed win.
David Raya was relatively comfortable in goal for the Gunners, but he had to be focused on his job.
Matthijs de Ligt almost equalised in the 67th minute with a towering header from a Bruno Fernandes corner, but Raya made an exceptional save at full stretch.
United’s official website were also impressed by the stop and described the save as ‘magnificent‘.
Towards the end of the game, the £27 million-rated star made another good save to deny Antony. The Spanish ace has now secured back-to-back clean sheets at the Emirates.
The victory sees Arsenal within seven points off league leaders Liverpool. The Reds squandered a victory after conceding a late equaliser at Newcastle United.
Next up for Arsenal is a derby at Fulham. The Gunners were on the wrong end of a 2-1 result at Craven Cottage last year and will be aiming to make amends.
Gabriel Magalhaes and Riccardo Calafiori were deemed unfit yesterday with minor injuries, but they could recover in time for the short trip to west London.
Arsenal have started to peak at the right time. The onus should be on prolonging the winning run to pile the pressure on Liverpool during the hectic schedule.
